On 10th August, 16 SAR members set out to challenge themselves with an 18 mile walk across three Chiltern peaks. We started in Princes Risborough and quickly reached the top of Whiteleaf Hill, where we enjoyed spectacular views on a bright, clear day.

Dropping down to Cadsden, we then set off towards Checquers. Sorry not to receive and invitation to morning coffee, we stopped briefly at Buckmoorend for coffee and cake, before setting off to reach the top of Coombe Hill. Wendover beckoned for our lunch stop and a chance to replenish stocks of water and food and use the public conveniences.

The afternoon stretched before us as we navigated through the woods, with a break at Tring Park, to refresh ourselves before dropping down to Tring Station, then following the Ridgeway footpath to the top of Ivinghoe Beacon, the third of our Chiltern Peaks.

We were all glad to reach the end of the long walk, but most of the group agreed that it was very satisfying to stretch ourselves and that we were very fortunate to do the walk on a day of beautiful summer weather.
